Dear Diary,

I played my records of Bob Hope today for the first time in months. In fact, it had been so long since I played them that a few of the jokes seemed new. (Akshully)

Jerry Lester took Bob Burns’ place on KMH tonight and for many Thursdays to come. He’s a good comedian and should go places, but I dunno where.

Dear Diary,

On Bing Crosby’s program tonight the conversation inevitably turned to Bing’s horses. Bob Burns said, “Aw, Bing’s horses ain’t so bad. One of them won a race just last Thursday.” Bing chirped up with, “Yeah, and Bob Hope had to cancel three programs.” That brought him the biggest laugh he’s had in weeks.

Next week one of Bing’s guests will be Lionel Barrymoore, my favorite character actor.

Bob Hope will present the “Oscars” tonight in Hollywood but the only part that is going to be broadcast is Roosevelt’s fifteen minute speech from Washington.

Dear Diary,

Tonight at 10:00 I listened to the March of Dimes program. Eddie Cantor was the M.C. and Bob Hope was one of the guests. They announced him first but he was the last one on. Cantor introduced him as “the most glamorous man in town. The man whose clothes are the talk of Hollywood—Bob Hope!” Bob may have been the last one on but he got more applause and more laughs than anyone there and that’s going some because a few of the others were Bob Burns, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Fibber and Molly, Connie Boswell, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and lots more!
