Dear Diary,

I’ve heard Bob on the air only four times this month. Three of there were his regular program, and the fourth was the night he was on the Camel Comedy Caravan. Of course, he went off the air for the summer on the fifteenth, which knocked off two Tuesday nights of this month.

Probably the most important event of the month was Bob’s departure for and his arrival in England. I don’t know how long he’ll stay there before he goes to Africa and points north, east, south, and west. If he stays long enough, he may be able to entertain a successful invasion force of Americans et al on the European continent itself. That would certainly be an experience he would enjoy, since he’s been clamoring to get into the thick of it ever since Pearl Harbor. (Bob tried at least six times to get into the Army, or some branch thereof.) There’s nothing much I can do or say that would have much effect on Bob Hope. But I can say this, God bless him and watch over him, now and always.

Dear Diary,

The following article was in the paper today: “Bob Hope will include North Africa in his tour of the United States, England, and Ireland. Bob will be away from Hollywood four months. When he returns he will write a book on his experiences in Army camps (this will include his trip to Alaska.). It will be a little more serious than his maiden effort at literature, They Got Me Covered, which circulated at the rate of something like three million copies. Only the Bible can top it.”

I hope this next book’s longer.
