Dear Diary,

I’ve heard Bob on the air only four times this month. Three of there were his regular program, and the fourth was the night he was on the Camel Comedy Caravan. Of course, he went off the air for the summer on the fifteenth, which knocked off two Tuesday nights of this month.

Probably the most important event of the month was Bob’s departure for and his arrival in England. I don’t know how long he’ll stay there before he goes to Africa and points north, east, south, and west. If he stays long enough, he may be able to entertain a successful invasion force of Americans et al on the European continent itself. That would certainly be an experience he would enjoy, since he’s been clamoring to get into the thick of it ever since Pearl Harbor. (Bob tried at least six times to get into the Army, or some branch thereof.) There’s nothing much I can do or say that would have much effect on Bob Hope. But I can say this, God bless him and watch over him, now and always.

Dear Diary,

I read today that Bob and ZaSu Pitts do a jitterbug number in “Let’s Face It.” I can see right now that I’m going to enjoy that picture a great deal.

Jack Benny and company was on the Camel Comedy Caravan tonight in the second of five special programs. Ken Niles, Wen’s younger brother was the announcer. At one spot, Benny said, “Come in now, Wen Niles.” Ken said, “Aren’t you mistaken? The Hope show was on last week. I’m Ken Niles. ” Benny said, “Well are you Wen Niles’ brother?” Ken replied, “I don’t know. I have so many brothers. There’s also Ben, Yen, Lynn, and Titicitum.” How’d he get in there?

I also got a picture of Bob and Dot today.

Dear Diary,

Bro Bob Crosby was really swell on the Kraft Music Hall tonight. Just when I’m getting used to him, and all probably miss him, Bing comes back to old KMH next week. Somebody out to sponsor a program for young Robert.

Garry Moore’s program held even more appeal than usual for me tonight, simply because of a few words uttered by good old Howard Petrie at the end of the program. He was doing the regular routine of “Listen to all four Camel shows – – –” he named the four shows, then deviated a little to say, ” And be sure to listen tomorrow night to the special edition of the Camel Comedy Caravan, starring Bob Hope, Jerry Colonna, Frances Langford, Vera Vague, and Xavier Cugat.” Bob was on the Caravan the last time he was in the East. Now he’s getting up in the world – he takes over the whole darn program!

Dear Diary,

Garry Moore was on the Camel Comedy Caravan again tonight by special demand. According to the afternoon paper, he gave a “show-stopping” performance last week, and according to the announcer on that show, he stole the program, and so many people wrote in about him that they called him back. Keep it up, Garry. You’ll get a sponsor for your program yet.

I got several pictures of Bob today. They were all from “They Got Me Covered” and all of them were cute. I believe Mr. Hope gets nicer looking every day. Besides that, at the rate Bob’s going, it won’t be long before Bing can’t address him as “Fatter than me,” as he did Sunday.
